The Barred Plymouth Rock chicken traces its origins to early 19th-century New England, near the town of Plymouth. Bred from a cross between Black Javas and Dominique chickens, the result was a striking black-and-white barred plumage and a bird known for its dual-purpose value—excellent for both egg production and meat.
